A Long Way Gone is a gut wrentching story which chronicles author Ishmael Beah’s escape from war torn Sierra Leon, Africa. In this book, you follow Ishmael and his friends as they depart their small village one day for a talent show, only to be ripped away from innocence and thrown into what can only be described as pure and utter evil. Forced to serve in the Sierra Leon Army and fight against the RUF, Ishmael delves into a life of drugs, murder and chaos at a meager 13 years. The story highlights his eventual departure from the army and difficult road to rehabilitation, only to come face to face with the choice to fight once again.
A Long Way Gone is an incredible read that will tug on your heart strings and challenge you to act. If you don’t know what is happening to children in places like Sierra Leon, Sudan, Liberia and more, you owe it to yourself to read this book and become informed.

Brother Jeremy,
Hey man…thought I’d leave you a reply. I’ve been surfing around the VineAge stuff - very cool - lots to explore. Love what you’re doing with the internet and the power/accessibility it provides. Good communication tool. It will be fascinating to see where the Lord takes us (the Church) into the future in these realities.
Side note: love the John Piper quotes.
And in advance: Happy Anniversary!
We love you guys and hope you’re doing well…
