I’d like to share something brief that inspires me. Some of you may know the story of Dick and Richard Hoyt. Richard was born with cerebral palsy. He is unable to speak or to walk. His parents never treated him differently and put him through public school. Through the use of a computer, he is able to communicate quite effectively and even completed a degree in special education from Boston College.During his time in college he asked his father to help him compete in a 5k race to raise support for a lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident. Dick Hoyt pushed his son in a wheelchair for the entire 5 kilometers. After that race, Richard told his father that when he was racing, he didn’t feel disabled. Dick the proceeded to enter more races and to date they have run countless marathons, iron man competitions and have even biked across America.
Dick and Richard Hoyt are an amazing inspiration to me. I see in Richard a picture of myself, broken and battered as a human and I see in Dick a picture of my Heavenly Father who has picked me up and carried me through this life and has taken away this debilitating disease called sin.
